Shopping in Vienna. What can you buy? Shopping centers in Vienna Online stores in Austria

TOURISTS' ANSWERS:

Where else, if not in Europe, can you spend hours wandering around the shops, looking at endless windows and shopping with great pleasure? Vienna, the capital of Austria, is no exception to this rule and provides its guests with plenty of opportunities for an enjoyable shopping experience. However, you need to remember that almost all stores will be closed on Sundays and holidays, so when planning your trip, it is better to take this nuance into account. And of course, there are standard seasons here too sales : from July to August and from January to the end of February. The only thing that needs to be taken into account is that on store windows, instead of the usual “Sale” you will most likely see “Reduiziert” or “Tief reduziert”, meaning “discounts” and “big discounts”. It will also be interesting to go shopping in Vienna before Christmas, admiring the brightly decorated windows and shelves and catching the pre-Christmas sales.

There are a great many shops in Vienna. But, naturally, most of them are concentrated in close proximity to the city center.

The main shopping areas in the city are considered to be the street area Kertnerstrasse and pedestrian street Graben, which in essence are nothing more than the trading heart of the capital. Here you can find boutiques of the world's most famous brands and buy not only clothes or shoes, but also cosmetics and much more. At the very beginning of the street there is a large seven-story Steffi department store, each floor of which is allocated to a corresponding category of goods: men's and women's clothing and shoes, children's goods, music products, underwear, and so on.

In search of budget shopping, it is better to go outside Mariahilferstrasse, where inexpensive stores such as H&M, C&A, Diesel and others are located.

As in many other European cities, you should not neglect a trip to the local markets, where you can find many interesting things, as well as the freshest products. Yes, in the open Naschmarkt market, which is located near Karlplatz, sells the freshest fruits, vegetables, as well as cheeses and sausages produced by local farmers. It is noteworthy that many of the delicacies produced on private farms can only be bought at the market; they are not available in stores. And the taste and quality really deserve to be tried. On Saturdays, the southwestern part of the market is given over to a flea market, where antique lovers and buyers who want to find something like that gather.

Those who like organized shopping in one place can choose one of the large shopping centers in Vienna. In the very center of the city, on the Ringstrasse, there is Ringstrasse Gallerien, uniting about 60 stores of Austrian and global brands under one roof. One of the largest centers is DonauZentrum, uniting 173 stores of such famous world brands as H&M, Pinkie, Zara, Mango and others. The largest shopping center in the city and one of the largest in Europe is considered SCS – Shopping Center Sud(Southern shopping center of Vienna), located in the suburbs of Vienna - the town of Vösendorf. You can get there either by car or by bus No. 265, from Mölding station to the Vösendorf SCS stop. The center includes more than 300 stores where you can find absolutely everything: from clothes to jewelry, from electronics to souvenirs.

There are also outlets (sale villages) in the Vienna area, the nearest of which is Designer Outlet Parndorf. There you can buy items from leading world brands such as Gucci, Armani, Nike, Guess, Diesel and others at significantly reduced prices. You can get to the outlet either by a free bus from the Opera (although a return ticket is paid), or by train to Parndorf station, and from there on foot or by taxi.

Don’t forget that when making large purchases in one store, you can issue a Tax Free coupon, which allows you to return VAT at the border, which is about 13% of the purchase price, upon presentation of it and a receipt.

Vienna is an incredibly beautiful city! It has magnificent architecture, wonderful nature, and, of course, one of the best places for shopping. I would like to suggest what souvenirs you can bring from Vienna:

Vienna porcelain from the Augarten manufactory

Candies, chocolates and Mozart liqueur

Austrian gold coins "Wiener Philharmoniker"

Dishes with a pattern based on a painting by Gustav Klimt (simply called “Klimt”)

Peter Matzhold's smoking pipe

Wine glasses “Riedel”

Of course, not only that, but these items will make great gifts for family and friends, and on a shelf in your home, a pleasant reminder of your trip to Austria. A little more about these souvenirs.

Viennese porcelain from Augarten

Products from this porcelain are made by hand at the Augarten Palace, which was built in the early 18th century. Here, for starters, there is a museum, and a store where you can buy porcelain and crystal collections, as well as silver figurines, ashtrays, sets, vases, souvenirs, teapots, cups, and bells. The trademark of the products is a sign in the form of a shield, which is applied to the object of the first firing under the glaze. By the way, the kiln in which the firing takes place can also be seen during the tour.

How much do such gifts cost?

Tea and coffee sets –200 -1000 €,

Soup utensil sets – 220-1500 €,

Medium sized plates and dishes – 100 -300 €.

Sweets from Vienna

Everyone will certainly be happy with such a gift, and even if it is not so durable. I remember that I brought a lot of sweets from Vienna, and my friends’ eyes sparkled at these gifts more than at the figurines. That's what they are, sweet tooth! You can bring, for example:

- Mozart candies(“Mozartkugel”, price - from 3-5 €)

The history of these sweets dates back to 1890. These sweets can be found in packaging shaped like a red octagon with a gold border (or a variety of shapes) and are a small chocolate ball with a delicate marzipan filling. There is another variety - Mozarttaler (milk chocolate candies in the shape of ancient coins, filled with marzipan, light and dark nut cream). Very tasty, I recommend it!

- flower petal praline(price – from 2.70 €).

- Mannerschnitten waffles(with nut nougat filling, for which Vienna has been famous for a century and a half, cost from 3 €.)

Bring Sacher cake It will be difficult to take with you, but at least try it there, and bring the memory with you.

You can buy these sweets, for example, in the Demel store(Kohlmarkt 14), at the Manner Shop(Stephansplatz 7), Altmann & Kühne(Graben 30 and Negerlegasse 9), in the confectionery shops "Kurkonditoreien Oberlaa"(Babenbergerstraße 7, Sieveringer Straße 4), and everywhere, to be honest. As a last resort, at Vienna airport.

Coffee

Here you can try and purchase some types of real Austrian famous coffee:

- “Giusto” (price - from 15 €)

- “Café Exquisite” (price - from 15 €)

- “Coffee-house” (price - 20 €)

Alcoholic drinks

- Eiswein(strong and sweet wine made from frozen grapes cut on frosty days).

Marillen-, Obst- or Birnen-schnaps (fruit vodka 40%, goes well with black coffee, accompanies lunch, complements desserts, etc.)

- Mozartlikor(it can be added to coffee or tea, very tasty. Can be made from milk, white or dark chocolate.)

- Stroh(Shtro) - strong spiced rum of various types. Suitable for strong cocktails, you can also add rum to tea or coffee, or prepare sweet pies and muffins with a drop of shtro. Since it is very strong, it is rarely drunk neat.

"Klimt"

Will be an excellent gift for romantic people. Basically, the dishes depict the painting “The Kiss”, painted by Klimt in 1908.

Box 15 cm - from 80 €

Dish with a diameter of 36 cm – from 120 €.,

Vase 27 cm high - from 150 €.

And many other options.

You can buy similar products, for example, at the market in the Spittelberg area, on Karlsplatz near Karlskirche, in Österreichische Werkstätten stores(Kärntner Straße 6), in the center of Kohlmarkt, etc.

Branded Smoking pipes "Peter Matzhold" handmade ones cost from 35 €.

You can also find the following souvenirs:

- Viennese royal coffee maker(from 180 €)

- clothes from Viennese designers eg "Wendy & Jim"

- Viennese glass products "Lobmeier",

- natural handmade carpets

- cow bells(funny souvenir from Austria on wide colored ribbons, cost from 10 euros)

- Tyrolean hat(the history of this elegant hat goes back more than a century. The hat is made of soft felt with decoration in the form of a feather or tassel, costs from 20 €)

- figurines depicting Empress Sisi(from 10 euros)

These products can be found on shopping streets such as Meidlinger Hauptstrasse, Favoritenstrasse, Landstrasse and etc.

Philharmoniker gold coins denominations of 10, 25, 50 and 100 schillings have been issued by the Austrian Mint Münze Österreich AG since 1989.
The design on coins never changes. The obverse of the coin depicts various musical instruments, bassoon, double bass, harp, cello, violin and Viennese horn. On the other side is a large organ in the hall of the Vienna Musikverein. Such coins can be purchased at the main bank branches in Vienna.

Swarovski crystals is the brainchild of Vienna. The jewelry manufacturing company originated in 1895 and is still one of the most famous throughout the country. Of course, such jewelry is quite expensive, at least 100 euros for the smallest jewelry.

And, of course, these are refrigerator magnets, postcards with views of Vienna, key rings, various trinkets - from 0.5 euros in numerous stalls, departments and shops in the city. In general, as you can see, Vienna is rich in various memorabilia that, looking out from your shelf, will remind you of such a pleasant trip!

What to buy?

Souvenirs

Viennese souvenir dealers, of course, are inferior to those from Salzburg, but they also never tire of exploiting the image of the great composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Discs with music, portraits, boxes with images, figurines of young Mozart - all this can be found in souvenir shops in Vienna. Wonderful T-shirts with the inscription: “There are no kangaroos in Austria” or funny pictures on the theme of kangaroos in the Alps on T-shirts and magnets. Decorations

The Austrian brand Swarovski is known throughout the world, whose crystal and rhinestone jewelry is extremely popular in Russia. Freiville offers earrings, brooches, pendants, cufflinks, tie clips, watches and even scarves, shawls, clutches and writing instruments of amazing beauty and original design.

Food and drink

Where sweet tooth lovers can have a blast is in Vienna. After all, on every corner they sell chocolates with marzipan “Mozart Kuegel” with a portrait of Mozart on the box. There are candies in golden-red packaging, intended for tourists, and in silver-blue, very expensive, handmade and incredibly tasty. The classic Viennese Manner waffles from the Manner family store near St. Stephen's Cathedral, the very center of tourist Vienna, are also good. A favorite Christmas alcoholic drink, mulled wine, can be purchased at local grocery stores. Thin glass bottles with the inscription “Gluewein” contain the base of mulled wine. At home, all you have to do is heat it up, add cinnamon and cloves - and enjoy the aromatic drink and memories of fabulous Vienna. It is also worth buying Riesling and Eiswein wines, which are made from frozen grapes. Chocolate liqueur Mozart (and Mozart is also involved here) and apricot moonshine “Marillen Schnaps” are also popular.

Clothes and shoes

In the shopping centers of the Austrian capital you can find the most popular brands of Italian, German, Spanish clothing at prices that are more pleasant than in their homeland. However, Austria also has its own local brands: very high quality and worthy of attention. These are Steinberg - women's and men's clothing, Wolford - underwear and stockings, Palmers - swimwear, loungewear, underwear for men and women.

Shopping in the capital of Austria is very entertaining; the locals themselves love this pastime, and even more so, visitors - they simply adore it. The reason for this is the enormous variety of retail establishments and a very wide range of quality products. Vienna has many shopping centers and supermarkets, specialized sales points where you can buy clothes, shoes, accessories, souvenirs, jewelry, literature, antiques, as well as original food products.

Opening hours of city shopping centers: Monday-Friday - 09:00-18:30, Saturday - 09:00-18:00. Shops are mostly open on Thursdays and Fridays until 21:00. On Sundays, retail establishments are closed, with the exception of tourist places and small shopping centers, points of sale at train stations and airports - there you can always stock up on souvenirs, sweets and other things.

There are many shopping streets in the city, but the most attractive of them are the small ones located inside the Ringstrasse. Here you can stroll through the wonderfully designed, sophisticated shopping galleries.

Shopping lovers can also walk along other streets of Vienna where trade takes place - we will talk about them further.

Kärntnerstrasse. On this very expensive, luxurious street, which is located from the Vienna Opera to St. Stephen's Cathedral, there are a large number of small boutiques, as well as the seven-story building of the Stefan department store. Products from the most fashionable brands in the world are sold here. Two others branch off from Kärntnerstrasse - Graben and Rotturmgasse, which are not inferior to the first in their elegance and luxury.

Mariahilferstrasse. This street is the location of more affordable shops, as well as the Gerngross supermarket, the largest shoe store in Europe, Humanic, and other retail establishments selling products of famous brands - C&A, Peek, H&M. You can get here either from the Ringstrasse, or, on the other hand, from the West Station and the Technical Museum, using the subway. The most suitable section of the street for shopping is from Westbahnhof to Ringstrasse.

Shopping centers

As for the malls located in Vienna, we will mention the two largest.

SCS (Shopping City Süd)

SCS is the second largest mall in Europe, located ten kilometers from the capital of Austria.

You can get here either by your own transport, going south of the city, or by IKEA bus - it stops next to the Vienna Opera. You will spend about twenty minutes on the road - maybe a little more. Another option is to take the Badner Bahn train, which has only two cars (it is more like a tram). It also stops opposite the Opera. In addition to these modes of transport by which you can get to SCS, there is also a commuter train.

The area occupied by this retail establishment is approximately 230 thousand square meters. meters. It houses more than three hundred shops and has a parking lot for ten thousand spaces.

SCN (Shopping City Nord)

SCN is the second largest mall in the Austrian capital. It was founded in 1989. Very popular among locals and tourists.

As for how to get here, there is a free bus that departs daily from Schnellbahnhof Floridsdorf station on a schedule from 14:00 to 20:00, the interval is 30 minutes. More detailed information about the stores located here can be found on the shopping center website.

Markets

The picturesque Viennese markets are worth a separate description.

One of the most famous is Vienna Nastmarkt. Here you can stock up on fresh fruits and vegetables, meat, as well as traditional Austrian products.

On Flea Market young people love to visit, as well as connoisseurs of antiques and vintage things. It will be interesting for a visiting person to look here. Opening hours: 06:30-18:00, this market is open on Saturdays. You can get here by metro, line U4, station Kettenbruckengasse.

The Christmas markets can be called a true capital attraction; here you will instantly find yourself in a wonderful fairy tale...

Market Christkindlmarkt(“The Charm of Christmas”) is one of the best. The coordinates of this festive shopping complex are Ringstrasse, between the Town Hall and the Burgtheater.

On Freyung Square there is a small Altwiener Bazaar, where you can find wonderful souvenirs, as well as handmade gifts.

In the city suburb - Spittelberg– located famous christmas market, where you can purchase excellent products made by folk craftsmen.

Souvenirs

In this city, the variety of such products is very large - from the symbol of the Austrian capital - St. Stephen's Cathedral, the Ferris Wheel and beautiful white horses - to vases, hand-made figures, excellent textiles, antiques and traditional Austrian clothing.

Vienna also offers an unusual shopping experience - “palace shopping”. The fact is that in the numerous palaces located in the city - former noble residences - there are, in addition to ministries, museums, consulates and other organizations, also retail outlets.

Most often, palaces are found in Vienna in district No. 1 - this is the block surrounding Freyung Square. In "Palace Ferstel", located in the central part, you can wander through antique and jewelry stores, and also stop by the Xocolat chocolate store.

Nearby is "Palace of Harrah", it houses shops that sell interior items, as well as art galleries.

You can see the palaces in the pedestrian shopping areas of Graben, Kohlmarkt and Kärntnerstrasse. In a majestic "Palace of Justice"(the intersection of Graben and Kerntenstraße) today there are retail spaces selling porcelain products from the Augarten manufactory.

"Dorotheum Palace" is the building where the world famous auction house of the same name is located.

And a few hundred meters from it is located "Dietrichstein Palace", which houses the Doblinger Music House, the largest European sheet music publisher.

In the capital of Austria, you can buy wonderful dishes decorated with floral motifs as souvenirs - produced by the same Augarten manufactory, which was discussed above.

And, of course, Viennese sweets... Please your loved ones with candied flowers upon returning home - they are sold in confectionery "Demel" and "Blühendes Konfekt".

The capital of Austria, Vienna, offers great shopping like no other city. It combines the mood of the Old Town, famous brands, affordable prices and significant discounts.

The famous Mariahilferstrasse, which stretches from the Old Town to the West Station, is full of shops with fashionable designer clothes, shoes and bags. Vienna is also famous for its jewelry boutiques, where you can buy exquisite jewelry and elegant watches, and perfume shops.

If everything is clear with flagship boutiques (you can easily find the store of the desired brand on the map), then the question arises with shopping centers. What are the largest shopping centers in Vienna and its surrounding areas, what stores are available in them and how to get to them?
