Day 3: Yerevan - Khor-Virap - Yerevan

Pilgrimage to Khor Virap Monastery, where St. Gregory the Illuminator was imprisoned for the spread of Christianity. The monastery is located a few hundred meters from the state border between Armenia and Turkey, on the high left bank of the Araks River. From here you can enjoy an unforgettable view of the biblical Mount Ararat. The area around Khor Virap was the site of the former capital of Armenia - ancient Artashat, built by King Artashes I, the founder of the Artashesid dynasty. Artashat was one of the oldest cities, built according to a special design by the famous Carthaginian commander Hannibal, who found refuge in Armenia after his defeat in the war with Rome.

Day 4: Yerevan - Garni - Geghard - Yerevan

Trip to the village of Garni and an excursion to the unusually beautiful pagan Temple of the Sun (1st century AD). The temple was built in Greek style, with a characteristic colonnade on all sides and is located on top of a hill dedicated to the sun god Mithras (Helios). The Garni fortress, built in the 1st century, is a spectacle of extraordinary beauty, sometimes seeming unreal. The Garni fortress served as the summer residence of the Arsacid royal court.
Trip to Geghard Monastery, to the rare rock-hewn temple of St. Geghard (XII - XIII centuries), translated as “holy spear” in honor of the spear that was kept there for a long time, with which the body of Christ was pierced on the cross. (Geghard - Spear). The temple is located high in the mountains in the picturesque gorge of the Azat River. This is a masterpiece of Armenian medieval architecture, which is a complex consisting of the main
church, two cave churches and a tomb. In the first cave temple, a cold spring flows out of the rock, which is still an object of worship to this day. It is believed that its holy water heals diseases, rejuvenates, and gives beauty.
UNESCO World Heritage Site. Nowadays the Holy Spear is kept in the Etchmiadzin Museum.

A typical version of a cognac tour is a one-day excursion. In the morning, at 8-9 o'clock (or a convenient time), a Russian-speaking driver picks you up. You determine the proposed tour program with visits to selected attractions in agreement with your guide-driver (who will give you a time schedule taking into account the routes). Naturally, all tours are individual, which gives you the opportunity to slightly or radically change the program at any time.

And today ArArAt is one of the most famous and popular Armenian brands both in Armenia and throughout the world. ArArAt has been preserving the traditions of cognac production since 1887. To produce authentic Armenian cognac, only local grape varieties are used, which have special properties due to the unique microclimate of the Ararat Valley.

Trip to Garni.
Visit to the pagan temple of Garni (1st century). On the way, on one of the passes, right next to the road stands the Arch of Charents, from which a beautiful view of the Ararat basin with Mount Ararat (Masis) soaring in the distance opens. On the arc of the arch are the words of Charents: “Go through the whole world - There are white mountains in it, Masis has no equal in beauty!” The historical and architectural complex of Garni is the only monument surviving on the territory of Armenia dating back to the era of paganism. Believed to have been dedicated to the pagan sun god Mithras, it is included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.

Visit to the Geghard Monastery XIII century, literally - “Monastery of the Spear”, this monastery is included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. The name of the monastery complex comes from the spear of Longinus, which was used to pierce the body of Jesus Christ on the Cross. Now this spear is exhibited in the treasury of Etchmiadzin.

After lunch trip to the high mountain lake Sevan, located at an altitude of 1905 meters above sea level.
This is the most beautiful of the high mountain lakes. Its water is clear and pure; according to legend, only the stars and gods drank from it.

Tour of the Sevan Peninsula and Sevanavank this is a monastery on the Sevan peninsula of the same name, which was previously a small island. At the end of the 8th century, several monks settled on the island of Sevan and built their cells and chapel here. Over time, the number of monks increased and active construction of the monastery began. To build the walls, a ledge was cut out of the rock around the island, on which large stone blocks were laid. The wall surrounded the island, and a watchtower with a gate was built above it. Next, the monks built three churches, cells and outbuildings. At the end of the 9th century, the King of Armenia Ashot the Iron lived in the monastery for some time. In the 16th-18th centuries, the walls of the monastery were destroyed, and in 1930 the last monk left the island. Today the monastery is operating again, and there is a theological seminary named after Vazgen I.
