Beach map reviews. All the beaches of Phuket and the best beaches of the island - a description from personal experience. Sights and excursions

Kata Beach is the third most popular and visited beach on the island. It is located on the southwestern coast of the island territory, about 20 kilometers from the provincial capital of Phuket -.

Kata Beach cannot be classified as a huge coastal area, since it is only about a kilometer in length and does not exceed 40-50 meters in width.

If you go to Phuket on your own, you may not immediately find Kata Beach, since the boundaries of two neighboring settlements (Kata and Karon) are quite blurry.

Division of the beach area

Kata Beach is geographically divided into two separate beaches: Kata Noi and Kata Yai. Kata Yai is the largest of the parts. It is always noisy, crowded and there is a sufficient amount of various entertainment. Kata Noi, on the contrary, is a small and quiet beach that is not very popular among tourists from Europe and Russia. You can get to Kata Noi beach only from the road, going down a small staircase of 70 steps. Considering that this region has high humidity and hot weather, this path to the beach area is not suitable for everyone, so when planning a vacation in deserted Kata Noi, take this feature into account.

Kata Yai is a sandy beach without any rocks. There is some vegetation near the sand line, so if you wish, you can hide from the sun under the treetops. You can also rent a sunbed and umbrella (costs about 100 baht). The entrance to the sea is gentle and calm. In the northern part of Kata Yai (closer to neighboring Karon) there is a coral reef with excellent conditions for snorkeling and scuba diving.

Kata Noi is also a sandy beach, with fine white sand. The entrance to the sea here is sharp, so the beach is not suitable for families with children, since children can only swim at high tide, when the water comes very close.

Weather

The rainy season on Kata Beach lasts from approximately mid-May to the end of October. At this time, the beach is not particularly hospitable, as the sea is quite restless: strong waves, sharp gusty winds. This time is suitable for surfers, so there are a lot of them here during the low season.

From mid-November to January is the tourist season, so the weather here is mostly favorable for a beach holiday, with virtually no wind or waves off the coast.

How to get there?

You can get to Phuket by direct charter flight from major cities of the Russian Federation. An independent trip will also have to start with a flight to, and then a trip by air or land to the island of Phuket.

Once you're in Phuket, it won't take long to get to the beach. For example, from Kata Beach it takes no more than 15-20 minutes.

From Phuket airport to Kata beach is approximately 40 kilometers. It is best to cover the distance by taxi, but if you are a budget tourist, use the public bus. You can also rent a car in advance.

Traffic jams are common in Phuket, so be patient.

If you are already in the town of Kata, then you can get to Kata Beach by bus (departs from the terminal at the city market on Ranong Road). His first stop is , and then Kata.

If you rented a vehicle, then from the city center go along the road where the La Meridian Phuket Hotel is located until the roundabout, and then turn right in front of the Kata Beach Resort Hotel.

Entertainment

Kata Beach can offer a wide variety of entertainment that is not limited only to the coast. Of course, in scope it is still far from neighboring Karon and even more so from Patong, but it can still please vacationers here.

The village of Kata itself consists of three parallel streets, each of which is full of shops, restaurants, cafes, nightclubs, massage and spa salons, as well as several small markets. You won't be bored here either during the day or in the evening.

Also, local excursion bureaus offer many sightseeing tours, which involve not only exploring nearby attractions, but also traveling throughout the island of Phuket and even further.

Conveniently, everything here is always clear to Russian-speaking citizens, since there are a lot of signs in Russian.

In the south of Kata Beach there is a center where you can learn to surf.

Between Kata Beach and Karon Beach there is a great place for family fun - Dinopark. This is a mini golf course, but it is made in the style of Jurassic Park, which is very popular not only with adults, but also with children. While parents are captivated by the game, their children already imagine themselves as dinosaur tamers. If you do not intend to play, and the purpose of your visit is to explore the park, then the cost of the entrance ticket will be half the price.

Hotel accommodation

Kata Beach offers luxurious accommodation: there are more than 100 accommodation options from budget guest houses to luxury hotels with luxury rooms. Pricing here is moderate if we consider this issue within the framework of the island of Phuket.

But still, you should not neglect pre-booking, since there are many fewer budget options here than 4 and 5 star hotels. During the high season, upon arrival to Kata Beach, you simply may not find a suitable accommodation option.

The vast majority of hotels are located some distance from the sandy beach or along the road towards Patong. But, there are several hotels here - Kata Beach Resort and Katazani Resort - that are located very close to the beach.

Be careful when placing hotels along the road, especially in a place where there is a fence on the other side of the area. For example, at Chanalai Romantika Resort there are only 2 common entrances to the hotel grounds. Despite the fact that the hotel is located close to the sea (about 50 meters), if you stay in the wrong place (to the side of the entrance), you will have to walk at least half a kilometer around the coastline.

Nutrition

Kata Beach has on its territory a sufficient number of bars and restaurants with a variety of cuisines, which will allow you to have a snack or a hearty lunch at any time convenient for you. There are also plenty of similar establishments in the village, some distance from the sandy zone. There are a lot of mokos and trays with budget food for tourists on a modest budget. It should also be noted that the prices for dishes in restaurants and street food are quite reasonable.

Mom Tri’s Kitchen is rightfully considered one of the best establishments that often appears in tourist reviews. There are very tasty and varied local cuisine, a good wine cellar and a very cozy atmosphere. But, the establishment is designed for wealthier tourists, since it is unlikely that you can eat here for less than 1,000 baht.

Those vacationers whose budget is rather modest and limited can visit fast food establishments (“7-Eleven”, “On the Rock”, “Two Chefs”, etc.). Some of them are even designed for late visitors. These places are the best place to try the famous Thai pancakes.

If the option of eating in cafes and bars is an expensive pleasure for tourists, then food can be purchased in stores.

Sights and excursions

If you are vacationing on Kata Beach, you should definitely visit the neighboring beach areas - Patong, Nai Harn and Karon. But, besides such excursion programs, there are several more places where it’s definitely worth going. For example, one of them is a statue of Buddha, rising above the ground by as much as 45 meters. It is located near Kata Yai in a mountainous area. Also pay attention to the viewpoint (observation platform), which not so long ago was part of the village of Kata, and now belongs to Karon, but this does not detract from its merits, since it offers stunning views of the entire coast of Kata Beach and a little further.

There is another observation deck, which not everyone knows about: the views from here are not so gorgeous, but there are almost never any visitors here. You can get to it along the road from Karon Viewpoint (if you are facing the tower, the road is to the left). The path itself is a sight to behold as it passes through a beautiful and dense tropical forest.

Kata Temple also deserves the attention of tourists. It is located at the foot of the cliff in the east of the beach area. Not only is the building very old, but there is also a very beautiful initiation hall, there are dormitories for monks and even a school. The very way of life and way of life of the people living here is impressive and fascinates tourists.

Here, as in other beach areas of Phuket Island, tourist and local excursion agencies offer a variety of tours both in Phuket and beyond. For example, you can go to watch the sunset on the open sea, look at the beach and its surroundings from a water vessel during a sightseeing boat excursion, visit one of the national beaches in the north of Phuket or go to the famous islands (, etc.) . The choice of one or another excursion tour depends only on your personal preferences and free time (some excursions may take more than one day).

The picturesque resort of Kata Beach Phuket is able to charm tourists with its snow-white sand and clear sea water. It is a popular family holiday destination with impressive palm-lined beaches, excellent restaurants and a lively atmosphere. In May-October, surfers come here to catch the waves. In November-April, bronze tan lovers bask in the sun here.

When you first visit the beach, you can get lost on it if you don’t prepare in advance. Kata has a fairly lively atmosphere throughout the year. It has an international feel, with an impressive selection of restaurants, hotels, and entertainment.

Location of Kata

Not far from an equally beautiful beach is Kata. This beach is not much smaller than Karon. The beach can be reached from anywhere in the city in 15 minutes.

Kata Beach Map

At the entrance to the beach there is a signboard that will guide you in your choice of beach. There is also a small market at the entrance where you can buy beach accessories and try. You can also rent a scooter, right at the entrance to the beach. There is a reason why such rentals are provided, since even a 15-20 minute walk in the heat can be tiring.

Best hotels on Kata Beach

As one of the prominent attractions of Phuket, Kata has two beaches - Kata Yai and Kata Noi. They are adjacent to restaurants, boutiques, and entertainment establishments for the whole family. Kata's location is impressive with its eclecticism: there are budget guesthouses, middle-class hotels, and luxury hotels. Kata Beach offers tourists comfortable accommodation options, depending on taste preferences and budget. Below are the best 4 and 5 star hotels in Kata Beach Phuket.

Beyond Resort Kata is a 4* complex with 275 rooms. Located on the coastline, it has an original foyer, high ceilings, luxurious restaurants. Atrium Coffee Shop & Terrace serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. The chefs are ready to treat guests to dishes of local and European cuisine. In the evening there is an orchestra with live music. Italian restaurant and pub Poppino offers delicious Mediterranean delights. Perhaps this place is most often photographed by tourists - there is a turquoise swimming pool and a view of the sea with exotic bushes. Restaurants are open until late in the evening.

2. Metadee Resort and Villas 4*

The location of the Metadee Resort & Villas hotel is the western shore of Kata Beach.

Consists of 77 luxury rooms and villas. The resort features a central and large free-form swimming pool, a modern air-conditioned gym, an international standard spa, a meeting room, 24-hour security, and a tour desk where you can plan your exploration of the island. There is a computer terminal near the hotel.

3. Novotel Phuket Kata Avista Resort and Spa 4*

Novotel Avista Phuket Resort & Spa is a convenient destination for lovers of beach inspiration and shopping. The hotel restaurant offers several menus, as well as interesting and educational activities for children. Here they bake bread and make sweets according to their own recipe.

The hotel has a signature spa, a conference room for 100 people, a gym, a swimming pool, a bar, a games room, and a children's club.

4. The Shore and Katathani 5*

The Shore at Katathani is a complex of beach villas in the south of Kata Noi Beach. It is believed that this place is specially made for those who love to enjoy a maritime idyll, luxury and tranquility. But children under 12 years of age are not allowed here.

Each villa has a swimming pool and 2 bedrooms. Each room is comfortable in that it has all the amenities: air conditioning, internet, TV, safe, minibar. From the window of each room you can see the sea coast and mountains.

5. Katathani Phuket Beach Resort 5*

Katathani Phuket Beach Resort is a resort complex where many tourists return. The hotel includes 479 luxury rooms and rooms in low-rise buildings.

Often, hotels on Kata Beach Phuket have private terraces and balconies overlooking the coastline. There are swimming pools and tropical gardens. There is a palpable family atmosphere in Catatani. The hotel has two separate wings, 6 swimming pools, and an 800-meter beach. There are 6 restaurant complexes and 5 bars on the hotel territory. Chom Talay and La Scala restaurants offer local and Italian cuisine on their menus. In the evenings, musicians play the piano.

Season

This is one of the most popular holiday destinations in Phuket as it combines natural beauty with amenities and entertainment for the whole family. Hundreds of guests come here to enjoy a swim in the warm waters and get a bronze tan. Kata Beach is always busy but never crowded.

During the northeast monsoon season (November-April), the sea becomes clear and warm, with a turquoise tint to the waters. During the southwest monsoon (May-October) sailing conditions are suitable for surfers. On days when red flags are posted on the beach, swimming is prohibited due to dangerous tides.

At the end of the year the sea is calm and Kata Bay is filled with beautiful yachts arriving for the King's Cup, Asia's premier sailing event.

Video

For a comfortable stay on Kata Beach, you can buy umbrellas (several hundred baht in local stores) and beach mats. Toilets, shops and restaurants are located in the southern part of the beach. In the north of the beach there are massage parlors and vendors with snacks. The southernmost part of the beach is a great place to spend time with children, where there is shade even in the heat. Wandering vendors roam the beach with ice, fresh fruit, sarons, sunglasses and beachwear.

Beach service

Kata Beach Phuket has very soft and warm sand, which makes it possible to take long sunbathings. There is a rental of sun loungers, which costs 200 baht, a fairly affordable price. But why do you need sun loungers when you can sit on the soft sand. Palm trees grow along the beach and you can hide in their shade. The main thing you need to make sure is that in the shade of this most beautiful palm tree, a coconut does not fall on your head. The problem of coconuts really exists on the beaches; people are very often injured from falling ripe exotic fruits.

Entertainment

The sea at Kata Beach is blue and beautiful, however, here you can see big waves. You should be careful when swimming in the sea, since there are many undercurrents in this sea, which people often cannot cope with due to panic.

But you won't see many people; this beach is more secluded and peaceful. The very sight of the sea, sand and palm trees will remind you of a picture from a beautiful advertisement. Well, accordingly, the cleanest sea air will fill you with strength and health until the next such holiday.

But not only climatic conditions accompany your vacation, also during this period there are a huge number of offers from tour operators, especially in winter.

Photos from this amazing beach will be gorgeous. Enjoying the sea air on Kata Beach is a pleasure. When the sea gently washes your feet, a walk with your loved ones along the sea can become unforgettable. This is a decent place to relax.

The southern end of the beach is a haven for beginners and professional surfers. In the north there are massage parlors. Boats and boards can be rented at any time. For example, you can rent a kayak and take it to Pu Island, half a mile offshore. Boats for the excursion can be found at both ends of the beach road, most often in the car park at the southern end, next to Kata Beach Resort.

In addition to beach holidays, there are many restaurants and bars along the coastline. Thanon Thai Na is a street that offers eateries serving international cuisine. The T-shaped passage in the center of the resort is lined with makeshift stalls selling everything from jewelry to textiles.

Kata Beach is one of the bays in Phuket. It is located 30 minutes drive from the airport. Attracts tourists here who want to enjoy a quality beach holiday. Kata Beach Bay is more cozy than Karon and Patong. There are not such a large number of vacationers and sellers constantly trying to sell something. The most important advantage of this place is the clear sea and white sand on the beach. And due to the fact that the bay is surrounded by picturesque hills, there is no wind as such, nor very strong waves.

Who is Kata Beach suitable for?

The bay is aimed at a quiet type of holiday; there are absolutely no nightclubs or noisy bars. After 23-00 all establishments begin to gradually close, the street becomes very quiet and uncrowded. You can only see young people standing by the roadway and trying to catch a tuk-tuk to get to Patong, where the fun really begins. As you understand, Kata Beach is a great place for couples with children, newlyweds, mature tourists and all those who just want to relax without the hustle and bustle, or get out to the center of Phuket a couple of times for fun and nothing more. Party-goers will be very bored here, and they will have to spend a lot of money on a taxi to Patong every evening in both directions.

What is Kata Beach Bay like?

Kata Beach is divided into two beaches: Katu (long and wide) and Katu Noi - a secluded bay, 800 meters long. They are within walking distance of each other; the walk is about 15 minutes. Read completely

TOURIST REVIEWS:

Is this review helpful?

Prices for holidays on Kata Beach. March 2018.

tour cost

It’s much more profitable to go to Thailand on a package tour; we took a 12-night tour, bought it about a month before departure, and it cost us 85 thousand rubles ($1,400) for two people. The tour included: flight (St. Petersburg-Phuket-St. Petersburg), transfer to/from the hotel, accommodation in a 3* hotel with breakfast, free sightseeing tour of the island.

During our stay on Kata Beach, we took two excursions and also rented a car for trips and independent exploration of the island. The first excursion was to the Hanuman World zip-line park, it cost us $95 per person, and the second excursion was a boat trip to James Bond Island + sea canoes, it cost us $50 per person. We rented the car for two days and paid $50 for it + a deposit of $200, which was returned to us when we returned the car; it cost about $30 for gas.

Food and products

Food on Kata Beach is inexpensive. A hearty meal with alcohol in a decent restaurant will cost about 15-20 dollars for two, if you move a little away from tourist places, then in cafes the prices drop by half and a hearty meal for two will cost 8-10 dollars. fruit prices are very tempting: mango - 1-1.5 dollars per kg, watermelon 0.5 dollar per kg, pineapple - 1 dollar per kg, prices for exotic fruits average from 0.5 to 2 dollars per kg. Prices in supermarkets are, in principle, comparable to Russian ones, but, as a rule, what Europeans are used to eating is expensive: milk from 1 dollar, cheeses from 20 dollars per kg, the cheapest wine is 10 dollars per bottle. I recommend local beer, about 1.5 dollars for a 0.6 liter bottle.

Souvenirs and other goods

In Thailand you always have to bargain. We bought an excellent quality beach mat there for $4 (we bargained), a beach bag for $2, and a T-shirt can also be purchased for $1-2. Delicious-smelling Thai soap can be purchased for half a dollar. Snake and crocodile leather items: wallets from $25, bags from $40.

Cost of services and entertainment

Taxis in Phuket are expensive, there are signs everywhere with fixed prices, the minimum fare in Kata Beach is about $6. You can go to an elephant farm, where feeding an elephant costs about 2 dollars, and riding on horseback costs about 10 dollars. A huge variety of different cabarets with ladyboys - prices vary, but the average cost of visiting is $40.

Holiday impressions in October

I liked my holiday in Kata Beach. But this particular month - no! In October there were strong waves, and for a couple of days it was seriously stormy. For all 10 days I was not able to swim properly in the sea. I went to take a dip and quickly went to land so that the wave wouldn’t cover me. Therefore, we had to swim in the hotel pool. For me, this is a serious minus, since I go on vacation primarily to swim in the sea.

The climate itself was not much different from what it is like in other months. Hot, high humidity. There was often a tropical downpour. But, despite the fact that October is not considered a high season for visiting Kata Beach, there were many vacationers.

Why is it better to vacation in January?

The best months to visit Kata Beach are winter. And the most interesting thing will be to come here for the New Year holidays. The weather is excellent, the ocean is calm without waves. There is no rain at this time of year. Hotels are geared towards tourists and always offer entertainment. Everything around is decorated with garlands and tinsel.

Vacation with children

Kata Beach is one of the calmest bays in Phuket. There is no active nightlife here. As night falls, most establishments close until morning. A big plus for a holiday with children will be the beach and the sea. If you come here in winter, it will be completely calm. The entry into the water is gentle and gradual. Warm water. There are no living creatures found near the shore. The beach is excellent, wide and long. The sand is fluffy. Local workers clean it every day; there is no garbage or dirt here.

The hotel base does not have ample opportunities for recreation with children. Most of the inexpensive hotels here are 3*. But, for example, Beyond Resort Kata 4* has its own children's club. This is rare for Thailand.

Family holiday

Much depends on the couple. If she is looking for a quality quiet holiday, then Kata Beach is the place for them. Quiet place, without too much active nightlife. Until 23-00 you can sit in the restaurant, drink a delicious cocktail, eat sushi or perfectly cooked fish. Hotels on Kata Beach have SPA where you can relax your body and soul. Take a steam bath in the sauna or Turkish bath. There are many massage parlors on Kata Beach, where local young ladies will give you a foot massage for a small sum, which, by the way, is in demand among tourists. You can also try going for a Thai massage, they do it well here.

Recreation for the elderly

If older people’s health allows them to make such a long flight and they can tolerate the heat and humid climate well, then Kata Beach will definitely suit them. Calm and quiet place. Wonderful sandy beaches with good entry into the water. The resort itself is not dynamic. Young people rarely stop here. Because he prefers places with a lot of places where you can dance, for example Patong.

What to take with you on vacation?

First of all, you should take care of your medications. Thailand has specific food; not every stomach is able to accept their food normally. Every second tourist, during the entire vacation, experiences minor stomach upsets.

Don't forget to stock up on sunscreen with maximum protection. You can get burned very easily on Kata Beach.

Take plenty of clothes with you. Due to high humidity, if you wash your clothes, they will take too long to dry.

Where is the best place to stay?

My favorite area was near the Beyond Resort Kata. The hotel itself is one of the most expensive in Kata Beach, but very decent. Located on the first coastline. It has its own territory, various types of rooms. For those who are used to staying in good hotels, this will be an excellent option.

If you need a more budget option, then consider hotels on the 2nd and 3rd lines from the sea. The distances here are not great, but you will save a lot. For example, the interesting Kata Pool Side hotel. Although it is further from the sea, it is very cozy with good rooms. If you don’t mind climbing a small hill every day, you can stay at the Kata Hill Hotel.

What to do at the resort?

At first glance, it may seem that there is absolutely nothing here except restaurants, cafes, hotels, supermarkets and shops. And to see something interesting, you need to take an organized excursion. But no. Kata Beach may not have a large number of culturally interesting places, but there is plenty to visit on its own.

For example, this is the Karon Observation Deck. From here you have a magnificent view of two bays - Karon and Kata. If you like to play golf, you can visit an interesting park - Dino Park. As you can imagine, the park is themed and there are many dinosaur statues. In addition to golf, you can take a walk in Dino Park and take photographs as a souvenir.

Surfing fans, especially beginners, should visit the Surf House Phuket in the south of Kata Beach.

The beaches of Kata Beach are all municipal. Admission is free, but you will have to pay for equipment. Prices are not high. What I liked was the beach itself. Length 1.5 km. Very wide. The sunsets here are amazing. The sand on the beach is fine and very fluffy. What I didn't really like were the local merchants. They love to go back and forth and offer tourists all sorts of nonsense, from souvenirs to leather goods. Their prices are higher than in stores. They don't like to bargain!

Most often, tourists buy exotic fruits as souvenirs. Mangoes with a flat pit are especially popular. But they really are incredibly delicious. Also, from the curiosities you can take - dragon eye, lychee.

Those who love something unusual can buy products made from crocodile, snakes, and stingrays. The snake will turn out to be the most short-lived and will quickly become unusable. But products made from stingray are the longest lasting.

Often, tourists buy snake tinctures. A glass vessel similar to a wine bottle. Inside you will see a pickled snake. It all looks very scary, but apparently not for everyone.

There are several shops in Kata Beach that sell clothes and souvenirs. From all the diversity it is difficult to single out something like that. Regular cotton, like everywhere else. Different prices. Whether it's worth taking home is a big question.

Pros of a holiday on Kata Beach

The main advantage of Kata Beach is the beach! If you come here during the season, you will get a lot of positive emotions. Excellent nature, real exoticism and the flavor of the local people. Excellent service regardless of the star rating of the hotel. The place is calm without active noisy gatherings until the morning.

Disadvantages of holidays on Kata Beach

For those who need discos, it will be boring. Strong waves out of season.

It’s difficult to call Kata Beach in Phuket quiet and calm, but that’s what many people call it. It is recommended for families with children and for couples looking for privacy and romance. In fact, it is one of the most popular beaches after , where holidaymakers come for cheap trips to Phuket.

Foreigners politely call the beach in Thailand in Phuket Kata “Russian beach” and try to avoid it a little. This is understandable: crowds of Russian tourists and a sewer drain at the end of the beach create a certain aura around it with the indescribable aromas of Thailand.

However, after reading flattering reviews, our Russian brother continues to arrive at Kata Beach. And some people don’t care what kind of beach or sea there is.

People are divided into two types: some cover their noses when they walk past a stinking river, others walk and pretend that there is no stink here. Not everything, of course, is as scary on Kata Beach as it is painted to be. So let's look at how suitable it is for relaxation.

The infrastructure of Thailand in Phuket Kata is highly developed; there are both budget establishments and downright expensive ones. Expensive establishments are all designed for European tourists, for whom even such prices are still cheap. But in addition to restaurants, you can eat in cafes, and in makashnitsa, and street food has not been canceled.

Geographically, Kata Beach in Phuket is well located, so it’s still worth a visit. Just 10 minutes drive south of Karon Beach by transport, can be reached on foot.

Kata Beach, Phuket: how to get there

From Phuket Airport you can take a minivan that will take you directly to Kata Beach. If you are a supporter of independent travel, then this is a good option. By minibus the journey will take 2 hours and 200 baht. Cheap and cheerful.

If your luggage doesn’t take up half the bus, then you can go even more exotic. First by bus to the bus station in Phuket Town, and then from the bus station to Kata Beach. Stop right next to the beach. This is a good option if you want to stay in Phuket Town during your trip. There is a lot to see, the city is not too spoiled by tourists, and the low prices will pleasantly surprise independent travelers. Especially compared to the inflated prices of the Kata resort in Thailand. That’s why Phuket Town is so loved by winterers. The distance of 48 km from the airport to Kata Beach by bus takes 2.5 hours and 125 baht.

In December, a new bus was launched from Phuket Airport, which can take you directly to Kata Beach. But I haven't ridden it yet.

Bus from the airport to the beach in Phuket Kata

  • 2 hours on the road
  • 1 hour wait at the airport
  • price 125 baht (90 baht to the bus station in Phuket Town, 35 baht to the beach)

City shuttle from Phuket airport to Kata Beach

  • Minibuses do not have a clear schedule
  • 1 hour on the road
  • 1 hour wait at the airport
  • price 200 baht

Taxi from Phuket airport to Kata beach

You can also take . You can order it at the counter or online. The transfer will take you to Kata Beach in 50 minutes. It is profitable to take a taxi if there are several tourists. For example, for 4 people a taxi will cost a little less than 250 baht each. Families with children, inexperienced travelers and tourists with a lot of bags are better off taking a taxi.( - 900 baht)

Phuket, Kata Beach: things to do

Since the Kata beach in Phuket is aimed at tourists, and not only Russians, but also Europeans, there is a full range of water activities and other joys of life on the beach. The entire middle part of the beach was occupied by rental companies. Here you can rent a boat or jet ski (1800 baht for 30 minutes) and go to Karon or Nai Harn.

During the low season, Kata Beach is one of the most popular surfing beaches in Phuket. Surfers area on Kata, i.e. the place of their greatest concentration is the left side of the beach, when looking at the sea. The famous “Surf House” bar with an imitation wave is also located here. Prices are also European - 3 hours costs 2000 baht, the whole day 6500 baht.

On the left side of the beach, near the rocks, people are snorkeling; you can see several species of fish.

If you look at Kata Beach, there will be a small island in the middle called Ko Pu, or Pu Island. It is also popular among snorkelers.

Also on Kata Beach you can simply spend time lazily and casually: sunbathing, swimming and getting massages. At one time, all sun loungers were removed from Kata Beach, but in 2018 there are sun loungers and umbrellas on the beach, at least in the high season. Kata Beach on the map

If you are looking for a place to relax, then Kata Beach in Phuket should probably not be overlooked. But you need to know its pros and cons in advance so as not to be disappointed. Kata Beach is also suitable for lovers of surfing (only in low season) and other water sports. There is some kind of nightlife on Kata Beach. Not as crazy as Patong, but still. There is a good selection of shops and restaurants, as well as several interesting attractions, but also crowds of Russian tourists, and not always adequate ones.

Kata Beach in Phuket can hardly be called calm; it is one of the most popular beaches after Patong. I have some friends who bought a ticket to Kata Beach for 14 days. They came specifically for a beach holiday, and only spent one day on Kata Beach itself. We looked, compared, and every day we went to Karon, Kata Noi, went to Nai Harn, but not to Kata Beach.

Kata Beach (Phuket, Thailand): description, video, photo

Kata Beach is located in the southwest of the island of Phuket in Thailand, it follows Karon. This is a medium-sized beach - its length is 1.5 kilometers.

During the high season there are a lot of vacationers on Kata Beach, it can be difficult to find a good, spacious place for your sunbed by the sea, but it is not as crowded and noisy as the famous Patong.

In Kata, you may have problems parking your car, as there is only one lane in each direction and it is difficult to find a parking space even in the low season.

The flora of the coast consists of rare plantings of mixed trees growing along the area adjacent to the road, which makes it very hot here and there is practically nowhere to hide from the sun. Be sure to use high-level protection against ultraviolet rays when sunbathing!

Drink plenty of water, eat chilled and stay hydrated!

Despite the close location of the beach to the road, the noise from passing cars is practically inaudible here: the sound wave from passing cars passes higher and dissipates somewhere in the sea.

The beach is very popular among tourists; many travel agencies send vacationers here.

There is soft gray sand, a medium-depth entrance to the sea and clear water of a turquoise hue! The wind in high season is not as strong as on Karon.

A small river flows in the north of the beach. In this place, near the shore, there are many boats moored, so people usually swim further south.

In the southern part there are rocky formations located under the shade of trees, where you can hide from the scorching sun (there are usually fewer people in this place).

In the central part there are the main swimming areas, where lifeguards will look after you. It is better to swim here, as there are rip currents in the sea.

Usually this place has the most vacationers!

An interesting place for evening entertainment on Kata Beach is Dino Park Mini Golf. This is mini golf located on an artificial volcano. There you will find different types of dinosaurs, rocks, caves, and artificial waterfalls. All this will be accompanied by sound and noise effects: roaring dragons, steam, pyrotechnic effects.

It will be interesting for both children and adults!

In this environment, you can eat and drink with the feeling that you are in a cave, in the jungle.

Opening hours: daily, from 10:00 to 23:00

Not far from Kata Beach is the Khao Saam Haad observation deck!

From here you will have a beautiful panorama of the Andaman Sea coast!

It's quiet, peaceful and few tourists!

Hotels and prices on Kata Beach, Phuket (Thailand)

Review of Kata Beach (Phuket, Thailand)

Although Kata Beach shares the top five most popular beaches in Phuket, I didn’t like it, I like wilder, more deserted and spacious places, but there are a lot of people here and there was a feeling of constraint and crampedness.

But, in any case, once you are here you will have a lot of fun, tasty and unforgettable!

Rent a vehicle, travel around the entire island, stop at this beach, explore others, and this wonderful world called Thailand will become closer and more accessible to you!

See you in Thailand!

Rip currents

On the beaches of Kata, Kata Noi, Nai Harn, Karon there are reverse or rip currents! Be very careful when swimming when you see a sign warning you of the presence of rip currents!

Their essence is that you will be imperceptibly carried away from the shore by a corridor of water, which is located between two water vortices.

When you realize that you have drifted far enough from the shore, you will try to return back. This is where most people make their biggest mistake! They try to resist the constant current from the shore and waste their strength.

If you are caught in a rip current, you need to:

    calm down

    do not panic

don't waste a lot of effort

try to attract attention by shouting for help

try to see where the water eddies are smaller (on the left or on the right)

Having determined in which direction the water eddies are smaller, you should start swimming parallel to the shore to the left or right. Under no circumstances swim straight to the shore!

Having sailed away from the water corridor, you need to return to the shore by turning around and swimming perpendicular to the shore, the tidal waves towards the shore will help you with this!

Reverse currents can be identified by foam caps. When you look at the sea, there will be foam caps on the left and right, and in the middle there will be a fairly calm corridor leading into the sea. Also, in the reverse current corridor you can see muddy, sandy water.

Kata Beach (Thailand): interesting

For the Thai New Year, a very interesting structure is installed here. It is a corridor where water splashes at you from all sides, where you can cleanse yourself of everything bad that has happened to you over the year.

A large homemade ship (the size of several pickup trucks) sailed to the coast in Songkran 2016, containing a huge (life-size) figure of an elephant made of wood!
