The city of Pyatikhatki, Dnipropetrovsk region

Pyatikhatki city- a city of regional significance in the Dnepropetrovsk region of Ukraine, the administrative center of the Pyatikhatsky district, located 110 km southwest of Dnepropetrovsk. This is a large railway junction of the Dnieper Railway. The Kyiv-Donetsk highway passes through the city.
Located: Dnepropetrovsk region, Pyatikhatsky district.

Local history researchers consider 1886 to be the founding time of the city, when, with the construction of the Catherine Railway, the construction of one of the junction stations began, where the Potabashny brothers built their five houses. This is where the name of the settlement came from - Pyatikhatki.

In a short time, Pyatikhatki turned into one of the largest junction stations of the Catherine Railway.

In 1914, the following were already operating in Pyatikhatki:

  • the first elementary railway school,
  • one-class parochial school,
  • primary agricultural school.

In 1908, workers and employees of the railway junction organized an amateur drama club, which over time turned into the so-called people's theater. The initiator of the creation of this circle was a pensioner, former locomotive driver T. P. Yaremchuk, who led the choir and drama club of 20 people. The wooden theater building was built by the village residents. Ukrainian plays were staged on its stage and Ukrainian folk songs were sung. A library was built with money raised from performances and concerts. But during the First World War the theater ceased to exist.

During the first Russian revolution of 1905 - 1907. railroad workers in Pyatikhatki expressed their solidarity with the workers of St. Petersburg, Moscow, Yekaterinoslav and other industrial cities, speaking out with them against the autocracy. Soviet power in Pyatikhatki was established in 1918.

In 1923, the village became the center of the Pyatikhatsky district of the Krivoy Rog district. Since 1938, according to the decision of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the Ukrainian SSR, Pyatikhatka was given the status of a city.

During the years of the pre-war five-year plans, a number of industrial enterprises came into operation in the city of Pyatikhatki, Dnepropetrovsk region. Back in 1928, the construction of the elevator was completed, the creamery and the state mill began producing their products. Large industrial cooperatives were created:

  • Communard,
  • Red chemist,
  • agricultural artel Volya and others.

The creation of the Pyatikhat machine and tractor station in December 1930 played a significant role in the restructuring of the region's agriculture. In 1937, a mechanical repair plant came into operation, the director of which was Vitaly Ivanovich Klopov for more than 30 years.

From the first days of its foundation, the pride of Pyatikhatki of the Dnepropetrovsk region was and is the railway-industrial junction and the railway workers. Railway workers, through conscientious work, improved the organization of passenger train traffic, increased trade turnover and cargo turnover.

From June 22, 1941, all life was restructured on a war footing, and mass mobilization began. Already on August 13, 1941, the Germans set foot on the land of Pyatikhatki. During the occupation, underground patriotic groups and partisan detachments operated.

On October 19, 1943, the city was liberated by the troops of the 41st separate tank brigade, commanded by Colonel F.P. Vysotsky, and the troops of the 2nd Ukrainian Front under the command of Marshal of the Soviet Union I. S. Konev. Hero of the Soviet Union I.M. Kozhedub fought in the skies of the region three times.

Many city residents distinguished themselves in the fight against the fascist invaders:

  • a student of the railway secondary school L. Grechko fought as part of the partisan detachment “For the Motherland”, which operated in the Kirovograd region. For courage and heroism, L. Grechko was awarded the Order of the Patriotic War, 1st degree;
  • for courage and heroism and for the successful execution of the operation during the crossing of the Spree River, Major J. P. Vergun was awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union;
  • For crossing the Spree River in 1945, Pyatikhatsk railway worker P.G. was awarded the high title of Hero of the Soviet Union. Klimenko;
  • partisan of the Great Patriotic War Nikolai Mamon.

The streets of the city are named after them.
