Story

According to some sources, Foros is already 25 centuries old. In the 1st century AD e. Crimea was occupied by the Romans. In the Middle Ages, the Genoese fortress of Fori was located on the territory of the village, the destruction of which occurred in 1475 by order of the Turkish authorities. The Crimean Khanate dominated Foros for about 9 years. The monetary unit at that time was Byzantine coins. This means that in the 9th century there was a seaport here. In the vicinity of Foros, historians discovered fragments of amphorae and jugs.

In 83 of the eighteenth century, Crimea was annexed to Russia. Later, Empress Catherine II came here and donated lands. And this area was assigned to the control of Prince Potemkin. Then there was a scandal over the ownership of this land and Foros was taken away from Potemkin and transferred to the ownership of Obergoff Marshal K.A. Naryshkin.

And in 1896 the village belonged to the Ushakov family. Gradually the village turned into a resort town. The Ushakovs owned chemical plants. Celebrities came to vacation in Foros: musicians, artists and poets. At one time, the borders of Foros were closed to foreigners. Today, the village welcomes guests from all over the world.

In 22 of the last century, the counties were renamed into districts. Forty years later, Foros was given the status of an urban village. In 1967, construction of the South Coast Highway began. In 2014, the village was included in Russia.

Sights and excursions

The visiting card of the resort village is the Church of the Resurrection of Christ. He positioned himself on a cliff in front of a cliff. Its construction ended in 1892. With the assistance of A. Kuznetsov began to build it to make his stay in these places more pleasant; he and his wife suffered from tuberculosis and spent a lot of time in the village. The forms of the building are strict and simple. Beautiful balconies, spacious windows, stone facades - all this attracts a lot of attention. Oak doors, marble fireplaces and fifteen beautiful landscapes created by the famous artist Y. Klever have been preserved. There was a forest around the palace, which became the basis for the park. More than two hundred species of different shrubs and trees grow on its territory.

An interesting attraction is the sunken cargo ship of Batiliman Bay, which attracts all divers. Neither the state to which the ship belonged nor the name is known. It was flooded in the 30s of the 20th century. It is believed that this was done intentionally. The length was 130 m. The ship lies at a depth of 6-17 m. Fragments of some parts of the cargo ship are preserved quite well. Some divers like to take pictures next to them, especially on the propeller blades with a four-meter diameter. It is possible to swim inside the ship.

Laspinsky Pass is the highest point from which a breathtaking panorama is visible. There is an observation deck on the rock. Thousand-year-old trees grow on clones. The water space is inhabited by various living organisms. From 1998 to 2003 on the pass architect G.S. Grigoryants erected a chapel.

Beaches and embankments

The village has a small and cozy embankment. Here you can find inspiration for painting beautiful paintings while enjoying the beautiful views. State beaches are free. The main beach, "Green Beach", is covered with small pebbles, although in some places there are large boulders. Part of the surface is concrete slabs. Entering the water is sometimes difficult due to the presence of sharp stones. It is this beach area that has the widest coastline in Foros. There are places for changing clothes, equipment rental, a station with lifeguards, and a cafe. Since getting to the beach is very easy, there are always a lot of people on it.

The “Pink Beach” has a rocky shore; divers and people who like to feel the adrenaline in their blood love to relax here. There used to be pink gravel here. Now the sea has worn away all the gravel. The peculiarity of the beach is very clear water and an excellent descent for divers.

As you can see, the names of the local beaches are simple but interesting. Another one is called a “cold beach”, and all because several springs cool the water near the shore. Its territory is divided into two zones, one covered with large pebbles and the other with small ones. There is only a changing room.

Wild stone beaches are located between Cape Nikolai and the sanitized beaches of Foros. You cannot call this area a beach, as there are many blocks, boulders and stones. But the water in this area is crystal clear. There are beaches belonging to sanatoriums. They are comfortable. But getting to them is not as easy as getting to the others. If a tourist is not a hotel guest, he will have to pay, and some establishments do not allow strangers onto their territory at all.

Despite the fact that the village of Foros is small, it has a good selection of places where you can stay during your holiday. The best beach on the southern coast of Crimea is the coastal strip, with all amenities, on the territory of the Foros Sanatorium. The picturesque pine-covered hillsides of Foros Park extend straight to the sea, forming a rugged coastline of capes and bays. Through the shady alleys of the park you can go to the sea coast and stroll along the beautiful embankment, which offers a picturesque view of the Crimean mountains.

Rules for checking into the Foros sanatorium

Check-in time at the Foros sanatorium is 14:00, check-out time is up to 12:00, and the last service is breakfast.

The sanatorium allows pets up to 5 kg. Payment 600 rubles per day to the sanatorium cash desk.

If the Guest checks into the room after 14:00 of the current day local time, payment for accommodation will be charged in the same amount if check-in was made at 14:00.

There is no hourly payment for accommodation in the Sanatorium.

When placing before check-out time and if there are rooms available and ready for occupancy, a fee will be charged in the following order:

 100% of the room rate upon arrival before 00:00;

 50% of the room rate upon arrival from 00:00 to 12:00 hours.

Upon expiration of the paid period of stay, the Guest is obliged to vacate the room no later than 12:00 or extend the period of stay in the room. In case of untimely vacancy of the room by the Guest, the Administration has the right to evict the Guest without his participation.

In case of extension of the Guest's stay and subject to availability of rooms, a fee will be charged in the following order:

 50% of the room rate upon check-out before 18:00;

 100% of the room rate when checking out after 18:00.

To check into the Foros sanatorium, you must contact the accommodation service and provide a passport and voucher, and in case of undergoing medical procedures, you must additionally provide a sanatorium-resort card. When staying with children under 14 years of age, you must provide a birth certificate for the children.

Foros is the southernmost settlement on the Crimean Peninsula. It is located near Cape Sarych, on which there is a lighthouse indicating the way for ships. A special feature of Foros is the subtropical Mediterranean climate, while in the rest of the peninsula it is temperate continental. In summer, it is not as hot here as, for example, in neighboring Yalta, and the amount of precipitation is much lower. Winter is always warm, with little snow, the average temperature is about +5°C.

Ecology in Foros very good. There are no industrial enterprises in the village. The main income of its residents comes from tourism and related activities. Nature is magnificent. Here you can find plants that are unique on the entire peninsula. Trees and shrubs were brought here from various parts of the world. The air is a healing cocktail consisting of mountain freshness, sea breezes and pine aromas. Therefore, this resort is visited not only to relax and have a good time, but also to improve your health.
On the coast of Foros there is a sanatorium of the same name, which receives thousands of guests per season. It has developed various programs of health procedures for vacationers. There are also other health centers aimed at treating cardiovascular diseases and diseases of the nervous system.

Beaches in Foros small, strewn with pebbles. This village is not full of water attractions; tourists mainly come here for a relaxing time, more aimed at enjoying the local beauty. The water here is incredibly clean. This is due to the fact that two sea currents constantly circulate here. The embankment is filled with many cafes and restaurants. Almost all of them are quiet and very cozy establishments, the cuisine of which will delight even the most fastidious visitor.

The lion's share of the territory of Foros is occupied by Kuznetsovsky Park, equipped with benches, gazebos and fountains. Its most picturesque part is the Corner of Paradise, not far from which there is a magnificent mansion of the former owner of this estate. Also among the attractions it should be noted

The once elite Foros surprises with the contrast between the beauty of nature and the decline of society. There is no self-government here, no police, there is only one doctor for the entire village - and many migrants. Last year they carried out real terror here. Recently, one of them raped a 4-year-old girl.

The sweetish taste of decay has accompanied the guests of Greater Yalta since the time of Solovyov’s “Assa”. There is no novelty in this for a long time, but people come here specifically for the bizarre mixture of paradise landscapes and social decadence, just like they go to Anatolia for all-inclusiveness. Plunge into the atmosphere of sunny Soviet decay, be horrified by the prices, and be outraged by the rudeness - these are the same mandatory elements of the program as a visit to the Vorontsov Palace. But, unfortunately, the degradation of society on the picturesque southern coast of Crimea has long gone beyond the scope of demand from urban aesthetes.

There has been no police in Foros for many years - the nearest stronghold is in Alupka. Since 2016, residents of the village have been complaining about the wild antics of migrant workers working on nearby construction sites. A year ago, people from the southern republics attacked passers-by here, harassed women, and robbed shops. In the summer of 2017, after the intervention of the head of the Crimean Ministry of Internal Affairs, the police took measures to restore order. However, the effect quickly wore off. According to Foros residents we interviewed, migrant workers continue to commit outrages in the village.

Perhaps the absence of police in Foros was one of the reasons for the terrible tragedy that happened here to a little girl from a dysfunctional family. According to local residents, the victim’s mother came to Foros several years ago, did not work anywhere, and abused alcohol every day. Nothing is known about the girl's father. They say about the victim’s stepfather that he was engaged in construction and was also no stranger to alcohol.

On June 3, in Foros, a visiting builder tricked a four-year-old girl into going for a walk. He took her to the area of Cosmonauts Street and there, at one of the dachas, he raped the child. After the abuse, the rapist lost interest in his victim, the girl returned to the village and there she told the adults she trusted about what had happened.

“Our cafe has been open since May, and since that time a little girl began to come to us,” an employee of a cafe in the center of Foros, who asked not to indicate her name, told Notes. “I knew that the family was constantly drinking, so I paid the girl a little attention and fed her regularly.”

According to our interlocutor, she learned about the rape of the child from a friend, to whom the girl herself came and told about what had happened. The cafe employee immediately called the police, who, without delay, reconstructed the crime scene. Soon the rapist was detained.

The victim's family lived here

“The rapist was detained and, by court decision, is in a pre-trial detention center. The Investigative Committee is looking into the case,” Ivan Atamanenko, a district police officer from Alupka, told Notes.

Local residents say that after the tragedy, the grandfather of the raped girl came to the village and expressed a desire to take part in her fate. “Notes” was unable to contact him; the phone number of the victim’s stepfather, which local residents gave us, has been disconnected for several days.

The visit to Foros left a painful impression. The village is unkempt. There is garbage all around, overflowing bins. Everywhere people of Caucasian and Asian appearance are sitting on benches and drinking beer - this is during the day, around 15.00.

The long-term absence of police and the difficult crime situation have apparently left their mark on the population of Foros. People are reluctant to talk to the press; interlocutors ask that their names not be used.

In fact, today Foros, where about 2 thousand people permanently live, is left to its own devices - Yalta is 50 kilometers away, and the officials there clearly have no time for routine village problems. There is no one to maintain law and order in the village. Medicine is represented by one (!) doctor. Local self-government does not exist in Foros: the head of the territorial body has neither money, nor a seal, nor real powers. At the same time, over the past year and a half, hundreds of migrant workers have come to the village, which is virtually cut off from the outside world, working on the construction of state dachas and the renovation of the Foros sanatorium, earning odd jobs on private construction sites.

It was in such a specific atmosphere that the tragedy occurred. Why the Crimean authorities did not fulfill last year’s promise to open a stronghold for law enforcement in the village is still unclear. Probably there wasn't enough money. Although the proceeds from the sale of the sanatorium of the same name to the elites of Tatarstan could be more than enough for this.
