Resorts of Montenegro by the sea: prices, photos and reviews of tourists. Montenegro Balneological resorts of Montenegro

Beautiful nature, warm sea, favorable climate, clean air - all this makes Montenegro a suitable place to restore your physical and moral health. To recover from ailments, it is best to stay at a local sanatorium. We will talk about the two most famous of them below.

Igalo Institute

The Igalo Institute is known far beyond the borders of Montenegro. It began accepting patients back in 1949, and is now considered the largest health center in the world.

Treatment

The Igalo Institute has achieved outstanding results in identifying and eliminating neurological, respiratory, orthopedic, gynecological and cardiovascular diseases. Patients are also successfully relieved of rheumatism here.

For therapy, natural resources are used that nature has generously endowed Montenegro with: healing mud, mineral water, river, lake and seaweed.

Hydro-, electro-, balneo-, reflexology and thalassotherapy methods are widely used in the treatment process. Acupuncture, aromatherapy, ultrasound, and inhalations are often used.

Each patient goes through an individual treatment program. At the same time, group procedures of kinesitherapy, occupational therapy, and relaxation are actively carried out here.

The Igalo Institute is popular among those who want to lose weight quickly and effectively. Not long ago, a plastic surgery department opened in this medical center.

The establishment has a beauty salon. It offers one-day and multi-day treatments for facial and body skin care.

The medical center is open to young children and older people. Athletes who are going through a recovery period after injuries are welcome here.

The Igalo Institute also offers general health activities. They are aimed at maintaining a healthy lifestyle and good physical shape, as well as getting rid of bad habits.

Facilities

A team of Russian-speaking doctors works at the Igalo Institute, so our compatriots have no problems in communication. If anyone needs to speak to an English-speaking doctor, staff will provide an interpreter.

Patients are accommodated in comfortable rooms in one of the Institute’s buildings. From almost all windows and balconies you can see the green garden or the azure sea.

The territory of the medical center is equipped with a swimming pool, gym, tennis courts and several sports fields. The well-kept garden of the Igalo Institute is perfect for walks and picnics. The beach is a couple of minutes walk from the main building.

"Vrmats"

“Vrmac” is a slightly less popular Montenegrin medical center, which is located in the city of Prcanj. It is considered a multi-purpose medical-tourist institution.

Treatment

Medical programs at the Vrmac center are compiled by a group of specialists using modern technologies. The quality of treatment meets European standards.

The indications for treatment at the Vrmac sanatorium are the same as at the Igalo Institute. Particular results are seen in the rehabilitation of patients with cardiac, musculoskeletal and pulmonary diseases. This is largely due to the warm climate and Montenegrin air.

Many people come to the Vrmac Medical Center for outpatient therapy. It includes hydro-, physio- and electrotherapy procedures. Patients undergo regular inhalations.

Facilities

“Vrmac” can accommodate up to 210 patients. They are located in fully equipped rooms. Almost all of them are equipped with balconies overlooking the fragrant territory of the sanatorium or the sea coast.

For discerning guests there are apartments consisting of several rooms. Some patients are accommodated in bungalows right next to the sea coast.

You can diversify your leisure time by going to the beach, which belongs to the medical center. There is a swimming pool and sports grounds on the territory of the institution.

Anyone who has visited at least once Montenegro , you will definitely fall in love with this amazing country. The pristine beauty and purity of nature, the amazing historical heritage, the friendly people - all this fascinates and makes you come back here again and again.

Recently, Russians have been traveling to Montenegro also in order to improve your health. Treatment in Montenegro ideal natural and climatic conditions contribute: almost absolute ecological purity, healing sea air in the south and equally healthy mountain air, in which esters of pine needles and medicinal herbs are dissolved. Montenegro has a combination of uniquely beneficial natural factors - bright and warm sun, clean sea, sand with a high content of minerals, mineral springs, healing mud. The Montenegrin air contains charged ions, ozone, iodine, salts, other minerals, as well as ethereal evaporations from Mediterranean vegetation.

Here treatment in Montenegro organized on the basis of local healing mud, thalassotherapy, mineral springs and our own physiotherapeutic developments. Physio-, hydro-, electro-, wave and kinesitherapy, inhalation and dietetics, acupuncture and cosmetology - this is not an exhaustive list of the institute’s methods.

This center has accumulated experience in treating rheumatic and dermatological diseases, solving problems of the respiratory and musculoskeletal system. Rehabilitation after severe operations, chronic diseases and sports injuries takes place here. A stay at the Igalo Institute can relieve long-standing gynecological and urological diseases. In addition, here they not only provide treatment, but also tidy up their appearance - get rid of excess weight, rejuvenate the skin and help cope with stress.

Another popular wellness center is Medical center "Vrmac" in Prcanj (Municipality of Kotor). Here, against the backdrop of the amazing nature of the Bay of Kotor, they undergo treatment for diseases of the nervous and cardiovascular systems, diseases of the respiratory system, and the musculoskeletal system. Patients recover under the influence of climatotherapy, and can also undergo a course of physiotherapy (inhalation, hydro- and electrotherapy). Among chronic diseases, cardiovascular diseases predominate. WHO still considers them the main medical problem on the planet. The prevalence of heart and vascular diseases has increased several times over a short period of time. At the beginning of the 20th century, the mortality rate from them was no more than 9-10%. To date, this figure has exceeded 55%.

It should be noted that four groups of lesions are more common and account for the predominant proportion of mortality:

  • ischemic disease,
  • hypertonic disease,
  • vascular lesions of the brain,
  • chronic rheumatic heart disease.

The rest less often lead to fatal consequences. Mortality from coronary disease has especially increased. Cardiovascular diseases increase rapidly with age.

Diseases of the circulatory system, more than any other, have transformed the modern picture of pathology, its type or profile.

Speaking about trends, we should note the rejuvenation of morbidity and mortality rates. Myocardial infarction and cerebral stroke are now increasingly observed at a relatively young age. At the same age, the frequency of death from them also increased. Myocardial infarction affects 35% of people under 40 years of age who have disorders of the cardiovascular system.

Teplice

The most adverse effect on the health of the heart and blood vessels is the clogging of the air with chemicals, which, when they enter the organs and tissues of the body and accumulate in them, give rise to pathological processes. The growth of rheumatic heart lesions in environmentally unfavorable places shows this especially clearly.

Cardiovascular disorders depend on the environment. The deterioration of atmospheric air affects the delivery of oxygen to the blood, the nutrition of blood vessels and the heart.

Eco-friendly sanatoriums in the Czech Republic eliminate cardiovascular diseases thanks to clean healing air, thermal springs and other natural factors. One of the oldest balneological resorts in Europe, Teplice, located in the foothills, is proof of this.

Marianske Lazne

Another reason for diseases of the circulatory system lies in the fact that the body is one and failures in one part of it spread to others. For example, lung diseases inevitably affect the state of the cardiovascular system.

The second largest resort in the Czech Republic, Marianske Lazne, along with cardiac disorders, treats pulmonological, nephrological, endocrinological, and pediatric diseases. They also deal with the normalization of the musculoskeletal system and the rehabilitation of cancer patients.

The Czech Republic combines the treatment of cardiovascular diseases with the elimination of addictions

The third reason is tobacco poisoning (nicotinism). The epidemic of coronary heart disease caused by smoking has reached catastrophic proportions. The World Health Organization emphasizes that mortality from coronary artery disease increases with increasing cigarette consumption and decreases among people who quit smoking. Smokers are twice as likely to have angina pectoris and acute myocardial infarction. More than 70% of patients who have a stroke are smokers.

The incidence of myocardial infarction, cardiosclerosis, ischemic heart disease and death from cardiovascular disorders in alcohol abusers is incredibly high. Observations by doctors give the right to assert that alcohol consumption, even in small doses, increases blood pressure (hypertension), creates favorable conditions for coronary artery disease and myocardial infarction, and contributes to the occurrence of brain accidents (stroke).

Podebrady

No epidemiological study of cardiovascular disease is complete without finding an unbalanced diet as a potent risk factor. In the sanatoriums of Poděbrady in the Czech Republic, where people with cardiovascular diseases are also supported, each patient is given an individual norm and diet that most closely matches the needs of the body.

A sedentary lifestyle contributes to high blood pressure, the frequency and severity of myocardial infarction, and peripheral vascular disease. It has been established that in people engaged in physical labor, atherosclerosis of the aorta and coronary arteries of the heart, hypertension and coronary artery disease are less common than in those who are subject to physical inactivity.

Poděbrady is a sanatorium in the Czech Republic, where cardiovascular diseases are overcome thanks to physical exercises in the gym and pool, as well as training on simulators. All this goes well with carbon dioxide baths based on local mineral water.

Jáchymov

Nervous tension, psycho-emotional experiences and stress often cause various cardiovascular diseases.

Doctors at the Jáchymov resort specialize in treating elderly heart patients, helping them put their central and peripheral nervous systems in order and improve blood circulation.

Diagnostics

National services and medical organizations in the Czech Republic have reliable information about the development of this pathology, morbidity, and the most effective methods of diagnosis and treatment.

In Igalo in 1949, the Institute of Physiotherapy named after. S. Milosevic. Thanks to him, this town on the Hercegnovskaya Riviera turned into the largest sanatorium and health resort in the European part of the Mediterranean. The medical complex is located within walking distance from mud and mineral springs on the Sutorina River. Such natural resources are supported by a favorable microclimate and proximity to the sea coast. The sanatorium offers therapeutic and preventive programs in dozens of areas, physiotherapy for rehabilitation after illnesses and injuries, and special preparatory and treatment programs for children and athletes.

The infrastructure of the sanatorium, in addition to medical and inpatient buildings, includes Villa Galeb, which belonged to Josip Broz Tito, a SPA salon, a large swimming pool, saunas, recreational areas and venues for banquets.

From the Igalo sanatorium you can take the Seven Danica promenade to Herceg Novi. Numerous hotels and apartments of different price categories are concentrated around the health complex. The coastline is lined with sandy and small-pebble beaches, and there are concreted areas. The best recreation area, according to resort guests, is the beach on Momul island.

Vrmac

Sanatorium "Vrmac" is considered a budget alternative to Igalo. People come here for the treatment and prevention of cardiovascular and respiratory diseases, disorders of the genitourinary system and the fight against infertility. Unofficial statistics show that many couples who visited Women's Beach with Sulfur Spring were able to conceive a child within a few months.

The Vrmac Peninsula, on one of the rocks of which an old Austro-Hungarian fortress has been preserved, is located in the Bay of Kotor. The sanatorium is located near the small village of Prcanj. Local basalt sands help treat rheumatism and joint diseases. Mixed landscapes and rich Mediterranean vegetation create a special healing microclimate in this area. The health center with medical buildings and its own hotel has a well-groomed kilometer-long small-pebble beach.

The Vrmac underground tunnel began operating on the peninsula in 2007. It is easy to reach Tivat and Kotor.

Igalo is a small coastal town, it is located just west of the large resort of Herceg Novi; these settlements are connected by a long embankment. The embankment is very picturesque and convenient for evening walks. It has everything an average tourist needs, namely: shops, cafes, restaurants, entertainment for children, etc. You can read about the local embankment and beaches at the link.

Many tourists consider the Igalo resort to be part of Herceg Novi, this is both yes and no. More recently, the towns were one whole; in fact, this remains so, but from the point of view of local bureaucrats, these are different settlements.

The resort gained worldwide popularity in the middle of the last century (in 1949), at that time the Igalo Institute was established here, where the Yugoslav party elite and other officials of lower rank were treated. Like everything communist, the institute was huge; it was considered the largest complex in the European Mediterranean for resort and sanatorium treatment.

Nowadays, anyone can come to the resort and undergo a full course of rehabilitation at the same institute where Yugoslav party leaders were treated.

How to get there

Igalo is located in the very north of Montenegro, almost on the border with Croatia. In fact, the city is the northernmost seaside resort in the country. All transport logistics are tied to the nearest Herceg Novi, which is located 5 kilometers to the south. I recommend studying my post about Hercegnovsky transport, and it will become much easier for you to navigate. The blog also has a detailed story about the Herceg Novi resort, in which I described in detail how to arrive there.

As I wrote earlier, Igalo was originally a resort for the political elite of the former Yugoslavia, where communist bosses treated their psoriasis, rheumatism and other ailments of old age. When communism ended in the former Yugoslavia, the resort became available to anyone with some extra money. But what’s interesting is that the resort is supposedly therapeutic, but not a single Russian travel agency sells medical tours for it, but sells exclusively beach tours.

If your health is excellent and you are not particularly interested in the mud from the local river (although it certainly won’t harm you), then you can come to Igalo for a regular beach holiday. The city has several so-so beaches, several large spa complexes and satisfactory infrastructure with reasonable prices (prices in Igalo are slightly lower than in Budva or Kotor).

To be honest, if you didn’t come for medical procedures, then it’s difficult to live in Igalo for a long time, it’s too boring and monotonous here. To solve this problem, you should use my detailed post and choose several exciting Montenegrin excursions that will at least somehow dilute your Igala holiday. If you prefer self-guided excursions and drive, here is an overview of the best Montenegrin driving routes.

What healing factors are there at the Igalo resort

It is believed that even before the institute appeared in these places, local residents took mud from the bay and used it as a kind of healing agent. Scientific research has proven that they did this for a reason; the local bottom sediments actually contain useful microelements.

The reason for this is the small river Sutorina, which flows into the Bay of Kotor in the Igalo region. The composition of water is dominated by minerals and bioactive substances: Na(+), Ca (2+), Mg (2+), carbon chlorides, chlorides and sulfates.

The water from the mouth of the Sutorina River is indeed a very strong factor, which is used in the treatment and rehabilitation of certain diseases. Doctors say that water is life-giving and has a positive effect on the human body, namely: it has a vasodilating effect (corrects poor circulation), has an antispasmodic effect (reduces muscle tension) and analgesically (reduces chronic pain), and also causes a general relaxing effect.

If you are concerned about chronic rheumatic diseases, rheumatic diseases of muscle and connective tissue, diseases of the peripheral nervous system, musculoskeletal injury conditions and some skin diseases, then undergoing rehabilitation in Igalo will be very useful for you.

Prices for treatment and rehabilitation

The resort has the famous Institute of Physical Medicine, Rehabilitation and Rheumatology “Dr. Simo Milosevic”, it is the largest medical institution for multidisciplinary treatment in the Balkans. This is where the main flow of medical tourists goes.

Here are the programs the center operates on:

  • Rheumatological rehabilitation;
  • Cardiac rehabilitation;
  • Respiratory rehabilitation;
  • Neurological rehabilitation;
  • Rehabilitation of sports injuries;
  • Rehabilitation of the musculoskeletal system;
  • Children's rehabilitation.

Calculating the price for treatment and rehabilitation is very simple; it consists of the price for accommodation and the price of medical procedures. Depending on the Montenegrin season, the cost of accommodation varies. You can check the price of a room for the selected dates and the availability of rooms for booking using the link.

  • in low season costs 32 Euros per day, the most expensive 70 Euros per day;
  • cheapest accommodation option worth it in high season 47 Euro per day, the most expensive 89 Euro per day.

Prices for medical procedures start from 25 Euros per day for the Light package of medical services, up to 42 Euros per day for the Intensive package.

In addition to the huge institute, the resort has less grandiose medical institutions; they are also ready to provide tourists with a full range of the services described above.

Where to live in Igalo

Accommodation at the resort is in complete order; there are both budget boarding houses and private apartments, as well as large hotel spa complexes and expensive hotels (follow the link about the resort areas and the choice of accommodation).

In this part of the post I will publish several accommodation places that have earned high praise from tourists. Read about how to look for housing in Montenegro, and what features this country has, by following the link.

The main attraction and at the same time a health resort is the Institute of Doctor Simo Milosevic. I talked about it in detail a little higher.

If you wish and have free time, you can visit there. This is exactly what many guidebooks recommend doing; I was there and cannot confirm that the place is truly interesting. In my opinion, there is nothing special there. So you can skip this attraction, you won’t lose anything from it.

Villa Josip Broz Tito in Igalo

In the northern part of the resort is the villa of the former president of the former Yugoslavia. Villa "Galeb" (translated as "Seagull") was built in 1976. Like all communist leaders, Tito was a fan of gigantomania and did not particularly save people's money, so the villa has an impressive size. Its territory covers an area of more than 70,000 square meters. m., building area is approximately 5,000 sq. m.

The summer residence building has four levels. In turn, the presidential part of the villa consists of two sections, one for Tito himself, the other for his wife Jovanka. Nearby, 10 studio apartments were built to accommodate a suite, guest rooms and a place for servants.

In addition to the direct living space, the territory had a store, a spacious restaurant, an indoor swimming pool, and a therapeutic block with eight bathrooms for various types of therapy. To resolve important government issues, a meeting room for 50 people was equipped.

From the outside, the villa of the people's leader looks like a fortified fort, so that no one could prevent the ruler from contemplating the natural beauty of his country. Despite the luxury and grandiose size, Tito vacationed on it only a few times, because the usual people's leader had 33 more villas throughout the country.

After the collapse of communism, the huge useless building was transferred to the management of the institute. Now they conduct tours there, and you can see this modest luxury for yourself. Tours take place on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays at 18:00 and 19:15, entrance tickets cost 3 Euro.

Embankment "Pet Danitsa"

Since in Igalo the attractions “the cat cried”, the embankment can be considered one of the attractions of the resort. The approximate length of the road along the sea is 7 kilometers. The embankment unites several settlements on the coast.

The start is located on the outskirts of Igalo, the road passes through Herceg Novi, and ends in a suburban area called Zelenika. The width of the road is such that it allows tourists on bicycles and pedestrians not to interfere with each other. At the beginning of the 20th century, trains ran along the coast, but now the only thing that reminds of this is a lonely monument car.

What to do on the embankment? Nothing, just walk from cafe to cafe, breathe in the fresh sea breeze and admire how the setting sun plays with the waves. There are so many cafes, restaurants, clubs and bars here that an evening walk can last for several hours.

A rare railway carriage on the outskirts of Igalo

The history of the carriage, which you can see in the farthest part of the resort, haunts many antique lovers. It all started back in 1901, at that time Herceg Novi, Dubrovnik and Trebinje were connected by a narrow-gauge railway along which a nimble “chiro” - a small train - ran.

Modern technologies, political conflicts and banal lack of money have put an end to the economic feasibility of using this railway. Soon, the rails located along the bay were dismantled, the rolling stock was written off as scrap, and that could have been the end of it, but it didn’t end.

Now there are enthusiasts who propose to bring this railway line back to life. Arguing their desire with completely rational things: “Many cannot imagine what the reconstruction of this road could mean for local tourism.”

In 2005, the then President of Montenegro met with the Chairman of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and one of the topics of their conversation was the idea of restoring railway communication between the two countries. After all, the route worked until the early 70s. The conversation was about part of the route: Niksic - Trebinje - Chaplina (Chaplina station is located somewhere on the line between Sarajevo and Mostar).

The idea is certainly cool, but it seems to me that such a project could undo some of the tourism achievements that Montenegro has achieved over the past 20 years. After all, the rails should run along the Bay of Kotor (where they were), and now there are beaches, hotels and pedestrian areas in this place.

What are the beaches in Igalo

Local beaches evoke a whole storm of emotions when discussing them. Many tourists like them, many criticize “what the world is worth,” but I maintain neutrality and am ready to talk about the state of the beaches and beach infrastructure in Igalo.

It seemed to me that this place has the most vacationers, and the beach is located in the very center of the resort area. A pontoon has been built for easy entry into the water; you can go up and down the steps, it’s very convenient. I don’t recommend diving from a pontoon, it’s very shallow here and you can get hurt.

Next to the pontoon there is a section of shore with sand, but when you further enter the water, you will find pebbles. Due to the fact that the shore is sandy and pebble, the water here is clear only very early in the morning; after the swimmers arrive, its transparency disappears, and the raised sand dust tries to clog up everywhere.

There are all sorts of alterations, a shower and a paid toilet on the beach, everything looks a little “killed”, but it serves its function. Sunbeds on the beach are paid, but you can sunbathe on your own towel, no one will chase you away. In the evening you can take a free sunbed completely free of charge, at least no one approached me (I was there after 18:00).

There are places on the beach with shade, which is especially pleasing in the hottest weather. The shadow is created by several large trees, vaguely similar to pine trees. The crowns of the trees are quite spreading, so there is enough shade for everyone.

A special feature of this beach is the presence of radon springs; the water from them is noticeably cooler than the water in the bay. The springs flow close to the shore, so the further you are from the shore, the warmer the water in the bay. This is such nonsense.

The beach is located next to an institute that deals with the rehabilitation of people with joint diseases, so there will be many people with disabilities there. For such vacationers, the beach has the necessary equipment to make it easier for them to enter the water. It’s interesting, but there is no special “informational mockery” of people with disabilities here. There are no flashy signs “If you are disabled, then this is where you are,” “Only for disabled people,” etc., everyone relaxes together and no one bothers anyone.

Igalo mud beach

This is another free municipal beach. It is located in the farthest part of the resort (in the northernmost part of Igalo), where it is full of that famous Igalo mud. I'm not talking about garbage on the coast, but about healing mud. :)

Some tourists consider the mud beach the worst beach in Montenegro, while another part of the vacationers prefer to relax only on it.

What is the secret and who is right? In fact, everyone is right, and here's why. The view of the beach is not at all postcard-perfect; sometimes you can see household garbage, algae and sea mud on the shore. The entrance to the water is very shallow, you will have to walk 300 meters in knee-deep water to swim properly. But this is very much appreciated by tourists with children, since the depth is safe for children, and the water here warms up well.

Although the beach is called “Mud,” you still need to be able to find the mud itself, and the shore consists mainly of sand and small pebbles.

How to find healing mud? There is a light option - buy packaged mud on a nearby tray, at a price of 0.5 Euro for a half-liter bottle. But this is an option for lazy people. Real mud seekers extract healing mud on their own and for free.

Lifehack for finding dirt. We go further into the water and dig a hole at the bottom, wait a little for all the turbidity to settle. We check the dug hole for the presence of black slurry without sand, this is healing mud. You can put it in any container and use it for your health.

It is believed that freshly caught mud is the most valuable for your body, so we smear everything we want to smear and wait 20-30 minutes. There will be plenty of grimy mud-seekers on the beach, just like you, so you can organize a small club of interests and exchange recipes. Oddly enough, some tourists use mud applications locally, i.e. They don’t completely smear themselves, but only smear their knees and other sores.

After the procedure, one small problem may arise that you should know about in advance. The fact is that there are no showers on this beach; you will have to stomp in the sea for five minutes to swim, or douse yourself with previously prepared bottled water. The dirt washes off well and does not cause any harm to your things.

During the high tourist season, the tourist infrastructure on the “Mud Beach” comes to life, it is not a problem to buy food, drink and other tourist essentials, but outside the tourist season the beach is deserted.

Have a nice holiday in Igalo.
